Join The Most Dynamic Team in Canada’s Capital Region

Tour Guides and Youth-Tour Leaders – 2010

We require local enthusiasts to deliver city sightseeing motorcoach and walking tours, as well as lead visiting school groups in Canada’s Capital Region.

The bulk of these tours take place May through June, an ideal summer job for camp counselors, actors, theatre majors, swim instructors, lifeguards or youth leaders who don’t start their summer jobs until July. You must be a dynamic, self-motivated energetic individual who enjoys speaking in front of groups. Demonstrated leadership qualities and experience interacting with the public is essential.

All eligible candidates must:

  • Have some knowledge of Ottawa’s history, geography and major tourist attractions;
  • Be bilingual (English and French);
  • Possess valid First Aid and CPR certificates;
  • Provide a valid Criminal Record Check;
  • Be willing to work extended hours over multiple days.

Additional Information:

  • Competitive rates
  • Incentives available for guides who can conduct tours in a third language;
  • Selected tours may potentially include gratuities;
  • Most weekends off for the Youth-Tour Leader positions;
  • Ability to guide groups in other languages is an asset;
  • German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese or Dutch.

A fully paid, 50-hour mandatory training program will take place from early March through early April primarily on weekends. The training will provide the necessary background information of all major city attractions found in the Capital, enabling successful graduates to provide city tours and escort youth groups. The training will also include practice sessions on-board a motorcoach.

All candidates must be available to work full-time hours May through June. There is a possibility of part-time hours from June to September and seasonal hours in the fall, winter and spring.
